Pombase Q

Delighted by the recent news that Pombase was now on the web,
I immediately registered and today got on line. Imagine my surprise
to find that I need an X-windows application to see it. Okay, went and
downloaded a free one, but no matter what I do, the X-windows app
on my Macintosh and the pombase server will not communicate. My local
computer guru suggests that even if they do, the 6000 mile linkup will
be horribly slow.

So, my questions:
has anyone successfully connected to pombase with a Mac? comments
and suggestions on how to do it, or whether it is even worth the
effort from overseas?

are there plans to make a fully web-implemented version of pombase,
bypassing the X-windows? The cerevisiae genome project center works
great, I'd love to see something similar for pombe.

I hope there will be a genome analysis session at the Edinburgh meeting!
