POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
In Yeast Genetics
at the University of Montreal
A post doctoral position is available immediately for the study of the
cellular functions of the RoRNP ribonucleoprotein, in Schizosaccharomyces
pombe. Lately, Dr. Sandra Wolin's group has shown that the Ro60 polypeptide
component of the RoRNP interacts with defective 5S rRNA in Xenopus oocytes,
and thus they have proposed that this protein acts as an RNA chaperone in the
folding of 5S rRNA, leading mutant 5S molecules to degradation (see O'Brien &
Wolin, 1994, Genes & Development. 8:2891 2903; Shi et al., 1996, RNA 2:769
784). The candidate will be involved in the development a genetic system to
explore the function(s) of the RoRNP in the fission yeast.
Training in molecular biology and genetics of yeast is required, previous
experience with S. pombe is preferred. Salary will be $25,000 to $30,000
CDN/year, depending on experience.
