lacZ in sectoring assay

I am wondering if lacZ can be used as a marker of the plasmid loss
similarly to ade mutation as used in synthetic lethal screens. I am
doing it with ADE3 but my strain grows slowly and red color develops so
slowly it makes the whole thing almost impractical, even though
sectoring is good (when I can see it). Would lacZ be good for that
(cell autonomous and easy to detect)?
