New SGD features

Dear Colleagues,

The Saccharomyces Genome Database (SGD) now offers some new
features at our Web site to aid in displaying chromosomes.
We now have a "Chromosomal Features Graphic" that shows a
graphic of the genetic features for each chromosome. It can
be reached via our new "Genomic View" page at

http://genome-www.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/chromosomes

or from our "Chromosomal Features Display" at

http://genome-www.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/featureFinder.pl

The "Chromosomal Features Graphic" shows ORFs, centromeres,
tRNAs, etc., in an easy-to-understand, fully "clickable"
format. You can easily see a text-only view (the
"Chromosomal Features Table") of the same sequence. The
Chromosome table listing the coordinators and statistics is
still available. It is now known as the Systematic
Sequencing Table and can be found at

http://genome-www.stanford.edu/Saccharomyces/chromosomes.html

We have also introduced a new search method for finding DNA
sequences that we call "Sequence Finder." You can find it
at

http://genome-www2.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/pre.seqform_sc/SacchDB?

Sequence Finder is simpler to use than our normal search and
allows you to browse as well as search for individual
sequences.

A new "Hot Tip" has been added that will show you some of
the features of Sacch3D, our database of three-dimensional
structures. This "Hot Tip," located at

http://genome-www.stanford.edu/Saccharomyces/tips/hot-tip.html

will lead you through a step-by-step introduction to
Sacch3D, and show you how to display interactive,
three-dimensional structures using your web browser.

Finally, we have a new look to our homepage. After every
heading, you'll see a red question mark. These question
marks are links to explanations of what you can expect to be
included in that topic.

The URL for SGD is

Cathy Ball
