This is an update on the Yeast Protein Database (YPD) which is on WWW at:

        http://www.proteome.com/YPDhome.html

YPD now contains searchable information for nearly 5000 yeast proteins of known
sequence. There are many new annotations and new references.

Since the last announcement, there are several new features.

1. BETTER KEYWORD SEARCHING. The search form has been improved to allow
searching on essentially all words in the protein description or annotation
fields. The wild card chacteracter allows word variants.

2. HYPERTEXT LINKS BETWEEN YPD PROTEIN REPORTS. The protein description,
annotation, and reference fields have hypertext links to other protein
reports whenever a gene or protein name occurs.

3. NEW AND NEWLY CHARACTERIZED PROTEINS ARE INDEXED EACH WEEK. There is an
index to the protein reports entered in the last week that represent new or
renamed proteins. Newly characterized proteins that were previously
entered by their systematic (genome sequencing) name can be found here.

4. UPDATED PROTEIN REPORTS ARE INDEXED EACH WEEK. There is an index to
the proteins reports that have been modified in each of the past few weeks.

5. INDEX OF PROTEINS BY CATEGORY IS UPDATED DAILY. There is an index,
updated daily, to the yeast proteins by category. This index tabulates the
number of proteins in each category by subcellular localization, type of
modification, chromosome number, etc. Clicking on the item brings up the
list of all proteins in the category.

6. INDEX TO PROTEINS OF SPECIAL INTEREST. There is an index to protein
groups of special interest such as protein kinases, cyclins, etc, and to
groups with interesting motifs such as bromodomains, RRM domains, WD-40
motifs, etc.

YPD aims to be as comprehensive as possible in listing the names and key
properties of all yeast proteins of known sequence. It is not yet possible
to be complete in terms of the annotations and references, although we aim
to include the key information for each protein. We welcome corrections,
comments, and new information from users.
