Try the protocol  of Robzyk,K. and Kassir,Y. Nucleic Acid Res. 20(14):
                     3790 (1992)
It is a good protocol and is supposed to get rid of the so called
E.coli 'transformation inhibitors'.  It also is a glass bead method,
but involves no organic solvents or zymolyase.
