This is in response to the letter about trehalose mutants.
I think I have seen a couple of papers in the last year about trehalose
mutants. One of them is Slaughter and Normura 1992. Intracellular glycogen
and trehalose contents as predictors of yeast viability. Enzyme Microb.
Technol. 14:64-67. There are some other labs isolating mutants, but I don't
know if they have published their results. I would do a search for
trehalose and yeast and I would contact Johan Thevelein or A. Weimken
(Basel) or Beth Elliot in Bruce Futcher's lab. My grad students also
suggest getting onto Entrez (ask francis at borduas.nlm.nih.gov) and doing a
search if you have a particular enzyme in mind. They have been going crazy
with this since the yeast meeting! Maggie WW
