(Molecular Genetics and Systematics of Invasive Insect Species)

Position No. 83148, nine  month,  tenure track, 70% research, 30%
instruction. To begin August  2002.

Duties:  Develop a research program applying molecular techniques
such as DNA fingerprinting and sequencing, genomic and mitochondrial
DNA analyses, alloenzymes, and/or cuticular hydrocarbon  patterns to
develop biologically-based methods of identifying, excluding, and
managing invasive insect species, and assessing impacts on native
species, in Hawaii and the Pacific basin. The candidate  will be
responsible for a broad-based undergraduate course in Systematic
Entomology, for developing a graduate course in application of
molecular techniques to invasive species biology & management, and
for assisting in courses in Invasive Pest Species and Insect and
Plant Pathogen Genetics.

Minimum Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Entomology or closely related
field. Research experience in molecular population genetics and/or
systematics of invasive insect species.

Desirable Qualifications:  Post-doctoral research experience in
molecular genetics or systematics of economically important insect
species. Teaching experience at the university level. Demonstrated
knowledge of insects of importance in the Pacific Basin.
