Funny you should ask...
My husband is up for a position with Moss Landing Marine Labs in Monterey
(he's in oceanography). Meanwhile we live in Honolulu, so a move is
inevitable and because I am in museum work, it will be tough for me to
find something. Too bad one of isn't an accountant, hairstylist or
nurse... they've got jobs no matter where they go.
Anyway, his potential boss is so interested in my husband that besides
flying both of us out to interview/look around, he has also been talking
to some of his contacts in the Monterey area for a position for me.
I think a lot of this hiring/sharing two people for the price of one
business is dependent on how desperately a company or university dept.
needs to fill a position. If you are one of the top candidates, work as
hard as you can to get there, providing it's something you want, but don't
necessarily bend of backwards and exclude your spouse's needs.
So good luck!
And if anyone out there is in the Monterey Bay area and needs to do a
little hiring....
