According to figures widely cited by NSF program officers
(and the What's New newsletter), the single largest source
of disparity between men and women at the NSF was among
reviewers: female scientists with PhD's who have not done
so should consider filling out the reviewer applicant form
available on the NSF's Internet archive (stis.nsf.edu).
Also, the re-submission rate for rejected grant proposals
is lower among women than among men. The take-home message
there: revise and send 'em back in again, gals! The avg.
number of submissions per grant (for those who eventually
*get* NSF grants) is said to be (a staggering) 1.9!! So
you're in good company. ;-)
