Subject: Xenopus
Dear Colleagues,
As you may know, the zoological station, here in Geneva, has probably
the largest collection of Xenopus in the world, with respect to
phylogenesis. Also, you may have already heard in the past that, due
to a variety of factors, we are soon going to terminate this
collection, to reduce it to the strict minimum we need for our
teaching duties and for the few research groups over here, mostly
using Laevis laevis.
We are coming closer to this sad end and I would like to be sure
that, as in the past, there is no concrete interest from another
institute to keep this collection running. This is not a call for a
free distribution of Laevis or Tropicalis, but instead, for the
transfert of a rather big operation, as you certainly know.
We are now starting to think how to implement the cut down of the
collection and I would be very pleased if this information can be
disseminated as widely as possible such that nobody will complain in
the future about the unnatural extinction of these animals.
