A postdoctoral research position is available in the Laboratorio Nacional de Genomica para la Biodiversidad (LANGEBIO) in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico, to study evolutionary diversification of the chromatin proteome / epigenome in eukaryotes (primarily plants, animals, and fungi), especially with respect to the evolution of 'dialects' of the 'histone language' in different eukaryotic lineages. Research to date has shown striking differences between plants, animals and fungi in the degree of duplication or loss of chromatin proteins responsible for histone methylation/demethylation, histone acetylation/deacetylation, and RNA-mediated heterochromatinization. We are working with iPlant to integrate our ChromDB database with other tools (such as CoGe) on the iPlant cyberinfrastructure to facilitate tree visualization, multi-domain protein structure, signatures of selection, etc., as well as to make ChromDB data and tools available to the community. Position requires Ph.D. with experience and significant publications in the area of molecular phylogenetics and molecular evolution, ability to work with students, and good English proficiency.
