The Austrian Science Foundation FWF has recently approved a new PhD program
in 'Molecular Enzymology'. The program is being set up at the University of
Graz and the Graz University of Technology, involving 15 research groups
from both institutions. The aim of the program is to provide outstanding
scientific training to exceptional young scientists in different areas of
the molecular biosciences, including bioorganic chemistry. The program
comprises extensive training activities in addition to the project-related
PhD research, including seminars, local and international laboratory
training courses, participation in international conferences and extended
scientific missions to laboratories outside Austria.

Research topics of the DK are:
 the discovery of enzymes
 the molecular structure of enzymes
the cellular and metabolic function of enzymes
 the biotechnological exploitation of enzymes

Research disciplines include:
 biochemistry
 bioinformatics
 biotechnology
 molecular and cellular biology
 microbiology
 pharmacology
 organic chemistry
 structural biology

The program is open to any student who has the equivalent of a masters
degree in any subject from chemistry to biology, including biochemistry,
micro- or molecular biology, pharmacology etc. 15 PhD positions will be
filled in spring 2005. Participants will be selected on a competitive basis.
Students are invited to apply now.
