pCMV-driven expression in E. coli???

Hi Netters,

did anyone observe a basal expression of proteins in E. coli driven by the
eucayotic promoter pCMV?

I seem to suffer some sort of negative selection against plamsids containing
toxic proteins if cloned in an eucayotic expression vector containing the
pCMV promoter and wonder if this could be the reason?
