You get radioactive contamination in the entire system, including vacuum
pumps etc. Your fellow workers and your Radiation Safety Officer will be
truly grateful.

Additionally, ionisation from radioactive decay may cause sparking in
those areas where high voltages are present, but I am not sure how
serious that problem is.
