May be a little late to recommend but the LICOR Odyssey 2-color near infrared
imaging system allows you to image coomassie stained 2D gels directly without
drying them out. They also produce a 16 bit TIF which is easily analyzed in most
2D Analysis programs out there. You will find many more spots than w/Silver AND
you can easily recover your bands atop the imager while they are still wet AND
go directly to Mass Spec for analysis.
