Laptop backup is 1 CD. No need to tape, and it can be done via network :) os
can be a problem indeed, but trust me none of the software we have now will
run on a palm or pocket PC. too bad really.

Yes indeed. I would rather have wirelessly networked instruments and either
one or two standalone PCs (terminals, essentially) or a bunch of pocket pcs.
This solves backup problem too. We're heading towards wireless electronic
lab notebooks anyway, so that's coming anyway.
