MAybe the positively charged Zn ions just travel in the other direction?
Do you have Zn ions in the electrophoresis buffer? It seems that the
protein needs Zn to stay together. You know, an electric field makes
everything with an electric charge... move. I would add Zn to the gel and
to the running buffer.
