collagen gel degradation

Many types of epithelial cells will only grow nicely when seeded on a
collagen matrix (vs. direcly on the culture dish bottom). The problem,
however, is that many cell types tend to degrade this matrix. Some types
tend to degrade the collagen more than other types. Does anyone know how
to delay if not how to inhibit this degradation? I've tried incubating
the cells at 32oC instead of 37oC. This helps but there is still
degradation after about 7-9 days or so.

Thank you.
