Your viscosity is from DNA. If you are just interested in proteins, you might sonicate the cells to open them, digest the DNA with DNAase, and then add the SDS etc. to prepare your sample. Bob Gross Dept. of Biology, Dartmouth College bob.gross at dartmouth.edu
