This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of
world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup rec.gardens.cacti+succulents.
This is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time.

Over 2500 species of cacti and 7500 species of succulents originate
mostly from the Americas and Africa but are now cultivated in almost
every countries. We feel that creating this group will help to reach
an audience of cacti and succulents enthusiasts around the world and
allow knowledge sharing among botanists, collectors, nurseries and

CHARTER: rec.gardens.cacti+succulents

rec.gardens.cacti+succulents is intended to be an unmoderated forum
for enthusiasts of cacti and succulents to exchange information
concerning cacti and succulents.

All topics for discussion relevant to cacti and succulents are
appropriate and would include, (but are not limited to):
- Plant identification
- How cacti & succulents have evolved
- Climatic conditions that make cacti & succulents thrive
- Cultivation
- Events
- International trade
- Diseases and parasites
- Books

The primary language of rec.gardens.cacti+succulents is english. Posting
in other languages will be allowed but english is prefered.

Flame wars and bad language are strongly discouraged. Posting in HTML,
binaries, spam, and commercial advertising is considered unacceptable.
Pictures for plant identification should be sent to the appropriate
alt.binaries.* newsgroup, possibly alt.binaries.pictures.gardens, or,
better yet, be set up on a web or ftp site.



This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes.  In this
phase of the process, any potential problems with the proposed
newsgroups should be raised and resolved.  The discussion period will
continue for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD
for this proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which
a Call For Votes (CFV) will be posted by a neutral vote taker.
Please do not attempt to vote until this happens.

All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.
