How to stop palm growing up ?

g'day katia,

you don't say if the palm is in a pot or the garden, but generally you
are not going to be able to stop it from getting bigger.

however if it is in a pot you can slow it's growth rate down, and keep
it in the same size pot for quiet some time, this can be done by
letting the palm get root bound, then remove it from the pot remove 1/4
to 1/3 of the root ball from the bottom and cut away 1/4 of the root
ball from either of side of the plant, this creates room for the
addition of new potting medium.

the next time it is root bound cut from the bottom again but remove the
side roots from the alternate sides, don't know if you can understand
what i am trying to say, if you are not sure let me know and i'll do a
sketch that i can send in gif format.
