There are about 100 species of Rumex (sorrel). Some are native to the
Americas and some to Europe. Many types are grown for salad greens. Others
as a source of tannin and others are simply "weeds".
"Rumex acetosa" is the common garden sorrel.
There is also
R. acetosella (sheep sorrel)
R. alpinus (alpine sorrel)
R. stutatus (French sorrel)
R. hastatulus (Heartwing sorrel)
R. paucifolius (Mountain sorrel)
and many others.
