Oud or aloeswood is a product obtained from trees infected with a
particular type of fungus which attacks the wood. The trees are found
in Southeast Asia and Asia, and are prized for the oil which can be
obtained from the wood. The oil is aromatic, and is used in top quality
incense, tribal and traditional uses, and is reputedly a potent
aphrodisiac. Aloeswood products, particularly the oil, is very
expensive, and fakes abound, so be careful of your source. Many sources
can be found in Singapore and Hong Kong, where trading in these
commodities is fierce. Best of luck to you.
