Taracum officinale is actually an aggregate of some 235 species.
However telling the difference between these species is very
specialist and so not much is really known about their distribution.
Hence it is possible that some of the species are threatened. For
example Taraxacum orcadense is only known from the Orkney Islands.
If you really want to get into Dandelions there is a soon to be
published book called The Dandelions of the British Isles which will
enable you to determine which are which for yourself. I can send
details of how to obtain it if anyone wants them.
