Bay (as used in recipes, wreaths to decorate the brows of laureates,
etc)., is Laurus nobilis, the "sweet bay". This is an evergreen tree.
Not to be confused with the poisonous evergreen laurel bush. These local
names are possibly peculiar to the UK.
