For those of you interested in starting sterile techniques, but do not wish
to spend hundreds of dollars on a HEPA system, you might be interested in
the article Joe Kish wrote for the Winter 97 issue of "Mushroom-the
Journal of Wild Mushrooming". He details how he bought a smallish HEPA
filter for under $13, utilized scrap materials and lowest-cost items,
and built a mini-laminor hood that allows him as a hobbyist to accomplish
sterile techniques without large investments. Granted, the size is too
small for commercial use; the hobbyist will find it acceptable.
You can buy the Winter 97 issue (and get instructions with photos)
for $4.00 from "M-t-J", 861-F Harold St, Moscow, ID 83843.
The issue also includes valuable articles and features, plus several
book reviews.
