Lake Superior State University (LSSU) is seeking applicants for an academic year (9 month) tenure track position in Plant Systematics beginning August2000. Candidates should have field-oriented experience with vascular plant taxonomy and the flora of the Great Lakes region. Teaching responsibilities may include Introductory Botany, Field Botany, Plant Morphology, Population Genetics & Evolution. The position offers excellent opportunities for leadership in interdisciplinary initiatives through the Gale Gleason Environmental Institute, and for collaboration with agencies in Michigan and Ontario utilizing LSSU's close proximity to large tracts of wetland, forest and shoreline habitats under various ecological conditions. LSSU is a small, undergraduate teaching university with teaching loads of 12 hours per semester, other duties include advising, participation in committees, and community service.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate in botany, or closely related discipline, with preference given to candidates familiar with Great Lakes flora. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to and potential for excellence in undergraduate education and interest in involving undergraduates in research. Experience in developing and managing multidisciplinary environmental/ecological projects a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.
