Post-doctoral positions available at the Research Unit for Tropical
Diseases of the Christian de Duve Institute of Cellular and Molecular
Pathology (ICP), in Brussels.
Several positions are available for young post-doctoral fellows who are
interested in receiving additional training in one of the disciplines
The Research Unit for Tropical diseases (TROP), a subdivision of the
laboratory of biochemistry of the UCL and headed by Fred R. Opperdoes,
has an opening for one or more biochemists / enzymologists. Additional
post-doctoral positions will come available soon in all disciplines
studied in the institute.
Various topics are being studied in the TROP Unit: (i) the
identification and characterization of potential drug targets and the
rational design of drugs for trypanosome-borne diseases (sleeping
sickness, Chagas' disease and Leishmaniasis); (ii), the biogenesis of
the glycosome, a microbody involved in the glycolytic pathway of the
Trypanosomatidae; (iii) the study of the enzymes of the
pentose-phosphate pathway in trypanosomatids. Detailed information on
the institute and its research groups is available via the internet at
the following web page: "http://indigo.icp.ucl.ac.be/ICP.html".
The ICP is an international institute for biomedical research, located
on the campus of the Medical Faculty of the Universite Catholique de
Louvain (UCL) in Brussels. It houses more than 300 people of which some
250 are directly involved in research. The institute is located on the
Medical campus of the UCL at the east rim of Brussels with easy access
to the major motor ways and the Brussels National airport and to the
centre of the city by underground. The research carried out in the ICP
comprises a great number of disciplines such as biochemistry, molecular
biology, virology, cell biology, (cancer)immunology, tropical diseases,
parasitology and microbiology.
