I have been thinking about the possible origins of
hoax genes for a number of years and thought I might
post these thoughts from when I was on the usns
Shughart and the NOAA ship albatross in 2000.
The idea is this, could the early colonial/symbiotic
cells that evolved into the eukaryote cell have during
reproduction have developed genes to turn off during
development all of the competing genes of the
contributing cells to the eukaryote cell and could
this be the progenitor to the hoax genes?

To many lights on in the house
The colonial multispecific bacteria becomes
eukarote. The reason I think that the genome has such
a great deal of inactive genetic material is that the
eukarote nucleus itself is of phylophylitic origins.I
suggest that eons ago multispecific bacterial colonial
organisms such as a possible precursor to Mixotricha
Paradoxa would have found a mechanism to complete the
merger.this would involve merging the dispersed DNA of
the constituent bacteria into the "central" host
bacteriam.Possibly evolutionary pressure from sexual
reproduction would have pressured colonial bacteria
into first transferring then consolidating DNA into a

consolidation. Consolidating dispersed bacteria DNA
would present a challange.what to due with all the DNA
that codes for much the same thing that the different
species of bacteria from our hypothetical multigenomic
bacteria have merged? The deactivation of such a vast
amount of genetic material would require a shepherding
mechanism of some ability.I thought, maybe that an
early hoex gene complex would have done the job. A
hoex gene complex analog would have been needed to
turn off the many extra "lights on in the house".A
hoex gene complex analog would have been the
"switch".Over the ages the mutation rate would
transform the duplicated and inactiveated DNA
sequences into the DNA that does not seem to code for
any thing today.
