INSTITUTE OF ZOOLOGY
ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF LONDON

TWO FIXED-TERM RESEARCH TECHNICIAN POSTS
CONSERVATION GENETICS AND MOLECULAR ECOLOGY
Starting salaries GBP14,642 to GBP17,056
(pay award pending)

Post 1:
A core-funded technician is required to
support a number of current and planned
conservation genetics projects. Experience
in molecular biology techniques and the
maintenance of captive invertebrate
populations will be necessary. The post
is available from 1st January 2003,
initially for one year.

Post 2:
The post is for six months, available
from 1st January 2003, and is part of
a European Commission-funded project
that will initially involve
characterisation of major histocompatibility
complex (MHC) genes in Atlantic salmon
(Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta).
Later, MHC variation in both species will
be screened for (i) evidence of an impact
of aquaculture on MHC frequency distributions
in natural populations and (ii) fitness
consequences of individual MHC genotypes
under semi-natural experimental conditions.
Experience of molecular population genetics
and/or immunogenetics would be a
pre-requisite for the post.

The Institute of Zoology is a research
institute with a strong emphasis on
conservation biology, and is the research
arm of the Zoological Society of London
(see http://www.zoo.cam.ac.uk/ioz/). A new
