Phylogenetic marker

Hello everybody,

We've been working on a phylogenetic study of a very conserved protein
present in all Bacteria and Eukaria but no in Archaea. In fact,
resulting phylogenetic trees are very similar to those obtained with
RNA. Also we have used distance and parsimony methods for phylogenetic
reconstruction and OTU's topology is essentially the same. Is it
possible to use the sequence of this protein as a phylogenetic marker or
even as a molecular clock?
Thanks for your help,

Gabino
