POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
A multi-university strategic project is looking for
a postdoctoral fellow to work on linkage mapping of
quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for growth and life
history traits in Arctic char (Savelinus alpinus)
for two years beginning November 1st, 1999. The
project is in linkage and QTL mapping and will
involve laboratory work as well as fish culture.
Mapping will be based on a backcross of a F1 hybrid
of two recently domesticated lineages of Arctic
char for genetic markers associated with growth
rate and life history traits as well as other
economically important traits. The genetic markers
used will initially be single nucleotide
polymorphisms (SNPs) within candidate genes. The
applicant should have a publication record that
documents experience working with molecular markers
and a knowledge of quantitative genetics. Good
communication skills are essential as the candidate
will work as part of a team of molecular
biologists, quantitative geneticists, and fish
biologists. Application packages should include a

Collaborators, Dr. Roy Danzmann and Dr. Moira
Ferguson, are using microsatellite markers to
create a low resolution genetic linkage map for
