***SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT***

The Genetics Program at UCSF will be sponsoring a genetic analysis class
to be held at the University of California, San Francisco the week of June
2-6 1997.  The program for the class, and the
fee schedule is presented below.  Also included in this mailing is an 
application form.  Please return the application form by email 
(service at ngl.ucsf.edu), FAX (415 476 7389, attn: Sue Service), or regular
mail (Sue Service, Box 0984-NGL, UCSF, San Francisco CA, 94143).

****Please note that the DEADLINE for application is MARCH 10 1997.  

Class size is limited to 30 students.

 
Advances in Genetic Association Studies.

Monday:
- Genome screening, fine mapping and candidate genes: study design and target
  populations. Lecture.
- Simple analysis of association: chi-square and exact tests. Lecture, 
  exercises.
- Epidemiology and genetics: estimating the effect and population impact of
  genes. Lecture, exercises.

Tuesday:
- The HTG story. Introduction, exercises.
- General introduction into likelihoods methods. Lecture, exercises.
- Association analysis via loglinear models. Lecture, exercises.

Wednesday:
- Haplotypes: more power, more ambiguitiy. Lecture, exercises.
- The Melanoma case. Introduction, exercises.
- Selection of cases and controls; selection bias and stratification.
  Lecture, exercises.

Thursday:
- Use of parental controls; haplotype relative risk and transmission
  disequilibrium test. Lecture, exercises.
- Founders and fecundity, drift and diversity. Lecture, exercises,
  computer simulation.
- Power calculation for association studies. Lecture, exercises.

Friday:
- Shared segments: the ultimate target. Introduction.
- Ancestral worship: finding the most likely location. Lecture, 
  exercises.
- Exact and simulation based tests. Lecture, exercises.
- Comparison of various approaches. Discussion and evaluation.
