We would like to announce the availability (finally!) of the HAPLO
haplotyping program which carries out haplotyping with computation of
conditional probabilities. This program has been described in detail in
the two references:

Sobel E, Lange K, O'Connell JR and Weeks DE (1995)
Haplotyping algorithms; in "Genetic Mapping and DNA Sequencing"
(IMA Volumes in Mathematics and its Applications,
Speed TP and Waterman MS, editors)
       Springer-Verlag, New York (in press).
Weeks DE, Sobel E, O'Connell JR and Lange K (1995)
Computer programs for multilocus haplotyping of general pedigrees
       Am J Hum Genet 56:1506-1507.

HAPLO is now available by anonymous ftp from watson.hgen.pitt.edu (and,
within 24 hours or so, from the mirror site in Europe at ftp.ebi.ac.uk).
Right now we have exectuables available for Solaris, SunOS, and OSF1 (DEC
Alpha). We hope to add executables for other platforms soon.

The source code for HAPLO is not available now, but will be available
shortly as part of the Programs for Pedigree Analysis package which is
distributed by Kenneth Lange (klange at umich.edu).

We hope you find HAPLO useful.

Sincerely,
   -- Dan Weeks --
