JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor of Fungal Plant Pathology/Fungus-Plant
JOB DESCRIPTION: Fungal biologist/molecular biologist with emphasis on
fundamental research and complementary teaching in the areas of fungal
plant pathology and/or fungus-plant interactions. This is a 9-month tenure
track position with opportunity for summer appointment. Responsibilities
will be allocated as 75% research and 25% teaching appointments in the
Department of Crop Sciences.
DUTIES: The successful applicant is expected to develop a nationally
recognized, extramurally-funded research program in an area of Fungal
Plant Pathology and/or Fungus-Plant Interactions using modern molecular
biological approaches. Research emphasis will be on fungi that cause
disease on or otherwise interact with soybean and/or other major crop
plants of Illinois. The incumbent will participate actively in the
teaching program of the department to include offering formal courses in
the areas of Fungal Plant Pathology and/or Fungus-Plant Interactions,
advising undergraduate students, and directing graduate student research.
The incumbent will teach a minimum of one course per academic year.
TRAINING: A Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Mycology, Biology or
other related areas in the Life Sciences is required. Postdoctoral
experience and demonstrated ability to employ modern molecular approaches
in a research program are preferred. The successful candidate must possess
excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to formulate,
organize, direct, and carry out independent research. The candidate also
must present the clear ability and desire to excel in classroom teaching
and in advising undergraduate and graduate students.
SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience.
STARTING DATE: August 21, 1997, or when a suitable candidate is available.
