Salary will be negotiable for the Chair
Salary will be £22,191 - £33,679 pa (Lecturer) or £35,251 - £39,958 pa 
(Senior Lecturer/Reader)

The School of Biological Sciences (rated 5 in RAE 2001) is the largest 
department in The University, with 61 academic staff covering the full 
range of the biological sub-disciplines in a single research and teaching 
organisation (see http://www.liv.ac.uk/biosciences). The School has just 
moved into a new Biosciences Research Building, which provides state-of- 
the-art laboratories, including a range of core facilities for post-genomic 
research, and a business incubator. The Building will serve as a focus for 
the Liverpool life sciences community with over 450 academic staff. As part 
of the strategy to develop the biosciences at Liverpool, The University 
wishes to appoint exceptional candidates to a range of positions in the 
School of Biological Sciences. Candidates should be able to present 
evidence of research excellence and potential in their field, and those who 
can demonstrate links with the activities of one or more research groups 
within the School and/or University will be particularly welcome.  We are 
seeking to appoint one Chair and five Lecturers, although suitable 
applicants at Senior Lecturer/Reader level will also be considered. A 
professorial appointment to the prestigious Johnston Chair of Biochemistry 
will be available to a candidate in the general area of 
Biochemistry/Molecular Biology.

The appointments will be made as follows:

A chair and three lectureships in up to four of the following areas:
1.functional genomics and cellular regulation, employing 
transgenics,transcriptomics, proteomics, or cell imaging
2.the interface of biology with chemistry and physics
3.molecular microbiology in microbial pathogenesis, host-pathogen biology, 
or microbial biotransformations
4.bioinformatics in genomic or post-genomic science.
5.bioinformatics in phylogenetic, evolutionary, population, or 
environmental science

Lectureship in host-parasite biology

Lectureship in evolutionary psychology/behavioural ecology
