The American Phytopathological Society is sponsoring a
Potato Late Blight Workshop. The POTATO LATE BLIGHT
Workshop provides background information, workshop papers
on recent research, and discussion groups on this
disease---and its causal organism Phytophthora
infestans---which is most famous as the disease that
caused the IRISH POTATO FAMINE in the late 1840s. In
addition of being of value to those who are teaching about
this event in commemoration of its 150th anniversary, the
workshop is timely because recent strains of the causal
fungus of late blight have emerged that make it more
resistant to widely used pesticides.
