UNU.ZERI.IBS on listproc at caren.net   Integrated Bio-Systems

   "Integrated Bio-Systems" is an unmoderated listproc list for the
   exchange of information and experiences on the use of biological
   technologies, in an integrated manner, in aquaculture, agriculture,
   industry, forestry and animal husbandry.  This list will serve a
   general list to gather people of a wide area of interests.

   UNU.ZERI.IBS is created by the Zero Emission Research Initiatives
   (ZERI) Project, The United Nations University, Tokyo and
   in-cooperation with the Ecotechnology Network (ECOTEC).

   Specialised lists will then cater for in-depth discussions and would
   involve experts, practitioners, entrepreneurs, researchers and
   students.  Such lists will discuss specific technologies for selected
   integrated systems;  they may concern mushrooms, algae, biogas,
   earthworm, biofertilisers;  biopesticides, fish and small animal
   farming, waste-water treatment and reuse, etc, etc.  The general
   objectives of UNU.ZERI series of

      (a)  to promote the research and use of ecologically sound and
           economically viable technologies in integrated bio-systems
           through the exchange of information of experiences
      (b)  to discuss how traditional self-reliant technologies and
           frontier high technologies can be combined and used in
           integrated manner
      (c)  to stimulate research on problems related to their
           applications, integration and economic sustainability.

   Through value-added reutilization of agro-industrial and agricultural
   by-products or materials, these technologies should contribute to
   zero emissions i.e.  production and manufacturing "without wastes"
   and to provide opportunities for increase income generation and small
   entrepreneurships development in a environmentally sustainable
   manner.
