Dear Colleagues,

Please accept this invitation to attend a conference in Biologically
Inspired Design in Science and Engineering in May 2006. All organisms
confront particular challenges in order to survive, therefore each organism
represents a design solution to a particular problem. Scientists of all
disciplines are increasing their efforts to search the design space
represented in the natural world in order to provide innovative solutions.
Your work represents some of the best efforts at using biological systems
to gain insights into a variety of important problems, and the use of
expertise in engineering and physical sciences to inform biology. In this
conference, we hope to highlight the fundamental advances that occur as a
result of considering how organisms, their constituents, or assemblages,
solve problems. Confirmed keynote speakers include Bob Full, George Lauder,
Mitra Hartman, Stas Gorb, Rob Clark, Franco Lodato, and others. The
enclosed flyer presents our initial announcement for our conference, and we
are accepting abstracts and registration at our website:
http://www.cbid.gatech.edu/ . Follow the "current events" link to our
symposium site to submit your abstract and register. We expect this to be
an intimate gathering of experts in this emerging area. Feel free to
forward this information to potential participants-you are the best source
for identifying colleagues that are interesting, and have an interest in
our activities. We are anticipating a great conference, and hope you can
attend.
