1999 Market Engineering Awards

Frost & Sullivan (Mountain View, CA) is an international marketing,
consulting and training company that monitors the U.S. biotechnology,
pharmaceutical and analytical instrument arena for market trends,
market measurements and strategies. In a news release dated 27
September 1999, Frost & Sullivan's U.S. Biotechnology and
Pharmaceutical Analytical Instrumentation Markets research presents
"analyses of the markets for HPLC instrumentation, mass spectrometers,
DNA analytical instrumentation and automated protein/peptide analytical
instrumentation." In addition, Frost & Sullivan gives out Market
Engineering Awards to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry "to
recognize companies that have worked hard to make a positive
contribution to the instrumentation market."

The 1999 Market Engineering Customer Focus Award for the biotechnology
and pharmaceutical instrumentation market was awarded to:

                            Beckman Coulter, Inc.

                     8-capillary automated DNA sequencer

Frost & Sullivan noted that "the introduction
of this product exhibits Beckman Coulter's superior
knowledge of customer needs and the company's ability
to meet and exceed customer expectations."

The 1999 Market Engineering Customer Service Award was presented to:

                               PE Biosystems

Frost & Sullivan rewarded Perkin-Elmer for "its
ability to build and maintain customer relationships
through fast responses, good support and fair treatment
of customer complaints and marketplace needs."

If you decide to buy from another vendor because of perceived value or
a cheap price, just remember that you will get what you pay for (and
maybe not even that!). And if you still decide to buy Shimadzu, well
Good Luck Chum (cause you're gonna need it!)
