The Aberystwyth BioCentre brings together the internationally renowned
expertise of three of our leading Institutes in Biological and
Agricultural Sciences.
The undisputed excellence of the BBSRC Institute of Grassland and
Environmental Research combined with that of the Institute of
Biological Sciences and the Welsh Institute of Rural Studies of the
University of Wales will enable the Aberystwyth BioCentre to become
one of the leading research centres in the UK and Europe

As a focus for land-based bioscience, the BioCentre conducts both
leading edge and near-market research to meet the economic and social
needs of Wales, the UK and the rest of the world.
Their close geographic proximity is combined with a mutual requisite
for scientific excellence and the BioCentre is supported by an
inter-Institutional management team which actively promotes the
interchange of scientific expertise. This enables staff to undertake
collaborative research and provides the facilities to support research
of international standing.
Hence the Aberystwyth BioCentre enables multi-disciplinary approaches
to be taken to tackle biological, biotechnological and agricultural
problems.
The breadth of expertise available means that the BioCentre is truly
unique in that quality, fully integrated research can take
developments from the level of molecules and genes right through whole
crop and animal systems to the transfer of new technologies into large
scale production systems, be they farms or pharmaceuticals.
