You mean besides parties?

Ethanol is used to "dehydrate" the tissues.  Increasing strengths of
alcohol are used until the water in the tissues is replaced by
alcohol.  Alcohol is miscible with xylene and xylene dissolves wax,
thus the next step is to replace the alcohol with xylene and then the
xylene with wax.
