UNITED STATES - In the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Summary
Update, for the week ending Jan. 17, the number of states reporting
widespread or regional influenza activity increased to 33 states, up from
26 the previous week.
Pneumonia and influenza-related mortality reported from the 122 cities
system increased from the previous week (at 8%) and remained above the
epidemic threshold of 7.2%. For the week ending Jan 17, it was 8.6%.
According to a cited WHO report, most influenza activity was type A,
with 60% of type A influenza similar to A/Nanchang -like and A/Wuhan -like
strains, the other 40% being similar to A/Sydney -like.
