Evolution and Entropy

Yes, this is a standard argument that Christians make against the theory
of evolution. They also like to argue that the law of entropy is
contradicted by the very existance of living organisms, in that organisms
are self-organizing.

The simple answer to both arguments is that:

1) the sun is increasing in entropy as it burns.
2) the sun, the earth and the organisms living on the earth are part of
   one thermodynamic system.
3) the increase in solar entropy far outweighs the decrease in entropy
   associated with living organisms.

Or, to paraphrase a chemistry professor I once had, if a wall suddenly
fell between the earth and sun, how long would life continue to exist on
earth?
