Stephanie Forrest and Melanie Mitchell have publised quite a few
papers on the general behavior of genetic algorithms. They focus
on bit-string encoding schemes. John Koza, at Stanford, has been
working with LISP-like parse trees as genetical encoding schemes.

A nice GA package, GASSY 2.0, is available via anonymous ftp from
piggy.cogsci.indiana.edu, in pub/gassy-2.0.tar.Z. GASSY was
written by Terry Jones, a graduate student at Indiana U.
