I have had some recent mail on this issue so I feel it is time to
restate the general BIOSCI procedure on handling bad mail addresses.
If we start receiving mailer daemon messages which indicate that a
problem (other than a possibly temporary network glitch) exists, we
remove the offending address from the subscription lists. We do not
have the time to do a status check on these addresses at a later date.
This means that if your computer goes down for an extended length of
time and you realize that you are no longer receiving BIOSCI
bulletins, you must take the initiative to contact us to be restored
to the lists. Please use one of the following addresses for this
purpose:
Address Location Network
------- -------- -------
biosci at irlearn.ucd.ie Ireland EARN/BITNET
biosci at uk.ac.daresbury U.K. JANET
biosci at bmc.uu.se Sweden Internet
biosci at net.bio.net U.S.A. Internet/BITNET
NOTE that if you were using USENET news reading software at your site
(SUBTLE HINT!!!!)
then the software would automatically retrieve back issues that were
posted while your system was down. Unfortunately with e-mail service
we are not in a position to provide this service (although back issues
can be retrieved through some effort on your part from the LISTSERVer
at IRLEARN).
The latest issue of Byte magazine which I received yesterday has an
article in the UNIX /bin column about USENET for those who are
interested. Additional reading recommendations are also provided.
Sincerely,
