Ear Pain

I have a friend who has a strange problem with her ears. Any kind of
breeze/wind that hits her ears causes pain. If she does't caver them, she
will have problems with balance. As soon as the wind is removed, the pain
goes away.

What causes this? She claims it started about the same time she was
diagnosed with TMJ.

Can it be corrected?

Are there any zero attenution earplugs that would block the canal (cotton
does not help)? She needs this for bike riding, sking and even walking.
