I believe it is very important that your grandfather be seen by a
clinical audiologist rather than a dispenser. Often, in many states, the
only requirement to be a hearing aid dispenser is to be 18 years old and
having the ability to pass a test. However, clinically certified
audiologists have been formally trained in all aspects of hearing and
hearing aids, have gone through a 9 month internship and can select the
most appropriate instrument for your grandfather. Also, the morals and
ethics of hearing aid dispensers (hearing
instrument specialists) with no formal training is highly questionable.
people dispense hearing aids illegally and do not comply with federal laws
to the sale of hearing aids.
