This is not unusual. We generally consider this a sign that some damage
to hearing is being signaled by this phenomena. This does not mean that
you are losing your hearing but some subclinical damage could be taking
place involving the sensory cells of the ear. You do not have to give up
music. Two suggestions: Musician's ear plugs - they are consturcted to
decrease the sound but allow monitoring and enjoyment of the music - most
audiologists can make them for you. An electric piano such as a Yamaha.
A friend had one with earphones. She could play the music and listen it
to with the earphones but control the volume to low levels.
